Search Engine Nonprofit Newswire Born in Lakewood, Ohio

Nonprofit-Newswire-10yrs-News-Events-Media-110110

Nonprofit Newswire, a worldwide search engine, got its start more than 10 years ago in Lakewood, Ohio using “old technology” like fax machines to distribute its nonprofit clients’ press releases to local and national media outlets, around the clock.

Today, members of the media, academics and charity researchers access Nonprofit Newswire exclusively online. And they do so 24/7 from every time zone, quickly accessing the latest news releases, media advisories and event announcements issued by nonprofits, charities and associations of all sizes.

Because the economy continues to be challenging for nonprofit groups, Nonprofit Newswire recently extended the freeze on its $55 annual dues for new and renewing members, keeping dues at 2008-09 levels.  Membership includes unlimited press releases in the search engine.  Nonprofit groups, their partners, sponsors or underwriters qualify.

If you’re a nonprofit cause or sponsor one, now would be an excellent time to join Nonprofit Newswire by clicking their logo…

George Scholarship Fund and how you can help, read fellow Buzzer “Retread’s” announcement by clicking this link:  Whiteline Scholarship.

Lakewood, What Kind of Town Do You Want?

In the “Community Forum” on Lakewood Buzz today, Buzzer 1353taco asks, “What Kind of Town Do You Want?” He posts:

The theater closes. The gelato store opens. Buy Lakewood offers discounts at “arty stores.” Beck center programs provocative and classic fare. Summer seminars for children priced beyond the reach of ordinary people. Recycling becomes easier. Birdtown behaves like an inner ring suburb within an inner ring suburb. Are half of us trying to be the Heights or Tremont and the others just staving off our next move? What is the future of this town that I happen to like more than all the other ritzy places that I spent time in? I meet folks every day who lived in other unique places and they feel great about this city, where do we go from here? What is the mix?

If you have a vision for Lakewood’s future, visit the “Community Forum” to take part in the new “What Kind of Town Do You Want?” discussion.

Charges Dropped Against Former Lakewood School Board President Geiger

Charges against former Lakewood Board of Education President Charles Geiger related to a car accident involving a downtown Cleveland policeman have been dropped.  A closer examination of surveillance video did not support the initial identification that Geiger was driving the car when it hit the policeman.  The investigation also concluded that the car involved was not Geiger’s.

Lakewood residents were generally shocked when The Plain Dealer reported early this month that Geiger and his wife were arrested. The newspaper ran mugshots of the couple who were jailed overnight.  Geiger, a respected local businessman, served for two decades on Lakewood’s school board and remains active with other civic groups.
