Lakewood Board of Education Delays School Closing

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — The Lakewood Board of Education at its September 17th meeting approved School Superintendent Jeffrey Patterson’s recommendation to delay closing one of the district’s elementary schools, as had been planned. Last month, Patterson presented Census and other data to the Board showing the district will continue a trend of growing enrollment, particularly at the K-2 level. Patterson also provided data clarifying that the district could not close an elementary school without significantly impacting classroom sizes, which currently stand at 22 students per class on average. As a result, the Board announced that keeping seven elementary schools was in the best interest of Lakewood’s students.
